In order to have better understanding of safety testing technology development in Hong Kong, a visit to Vitargent was organized for MSc EHS students on 31 March 2023. Established in 2010, Vitargent uses medaka and zebrafish embryos to perform toxicity tests. Vitargent makes use of glow-in-the-dark medaka embryos test for “Estrogenic Endocrine Disruping Chemicals”, while zebrafish embryos will be used for testing acute toxicity. Students were able to know about the background, technologies and applications of Vitargent through a talk and a guided walk in the laboratory. They also gained a deeper understanding about the career path in the field of safety testing technology.
