A career seminar held by SGS (HK) Limited was organized in the afternoon of 23 March 2023. We warmly welcomed the human resources representative for coming to share work experience and career path in environmental consultancy service and sustainability. They also introduced an internship program and a graduate trainee program to our students for their interest to join. Students’ responses were overwhelming. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to learn from the representatives about their career, the industry and the professional institution. Read more

To secure an interview opportunity, building a professional CV and cover letter is crucial. A Career Workshop - CV Critique was co-organized with HKUST Career Center. A group of MSc EHS students participated in the CV Workshop. Senior Learning & Development Trainer - Miss Grace Siu, guided our students to construct an effective CV and cover letter to make sure their application is not lost in the shuffle. "While recruiters averagely spend only seconds looking over a candidate’s profile, you need to catch their attention at first sight. Learning how to employ bullet points in a CV can quickly and easily show an employer that you're an ideal fit for the job." Grace also provided feedback to students on each of their CV. Students’ responses were overwhelming, and all of them found the workshop very useful. Read more

A group of MSc EHS students joined a tour to Central Green Trail on 13 March 2023 (Monday). This tour is organized by The Conservancy Association. Meandering uphill from 1 Tramway Path to the junction of Chatham Path and Barker Road, the Trail is dotted with various accesses and lookout stations, which allow students to wander through history and nature, enjoy a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle and reminisce about the fond memories of the city’s development. Through a guided tour led by Senior Campaign Manager of The Conservancy Association, Mr. Peter S. M. Li, students were able to enjoy a rich variety of natural resources and cultural heritage within Hong Kong’s urban area. Read more

To let students explore the diverse career opportunities in the green industry, MSc EHS Program Office organized a visit to Ocean Park on 23 December 2022 (Friday). The theme of the in-park visiting program is ‘Aquarist’, through which students were able to visit the Behind-The-Scene areas of The Grand Aquarium. By interacting with Kelvin, who is a scuba diver in the Aquarium, students were able to know more about the daily operations of animal caretakers, the special equipment for scuba divers and the challenges they encountered. Some of our students even tried to put on the diving equipment and experience how heavy it is. Students found the visit to Ocean Park interesting and educational. Read more

The MSc in Environmental Health and Safety Program has organized an annual get-together dinner for the Postgraduate students. The purpose of the event is to give our students and course instructors an opportunity to meet together in a relaxing atmosphere, and celebrate the joyful moment of the year. Around 20 current students from MSc in EHS participated in the dinner. They had an enjoyable time with their buddies and sharing their recent happenings. Read more

A group of MSc EHS students went to visit the Eco Expo Asia 2022 - International Trade Fair on Environmental Protection on 16 December 2022. The Eco Expo Asia 2022, with the theme "Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality", is a leading trade platform for the eco industry that showcases the latest green products, equipment and technology. Through a guided walk in the Exhibition Centre and participating in Eco Asia Conference, students were able to enhancing their environmental knowledge and understand more about the latest development of the green industry in Hong Kong and all around the world.   HKUST 30th Congregation was held on 5 December 2022. To celebrate the accomplishment and share the happiness, a graduation party was organized after the official ceremony. Faculty, graduates, graduates’ family members and current students were all invited to the party. Prof. Hongbin LIU, MSc EHS Program Director, welcomed all comers. In the gathering, light refreshments and drinks were served and there was a photo booth with props for students to take photos. Everyone shared the joy and pride of the graduates, listened to alumni sharing their experience in studying MSc EHS, and had a great time in the gathering. Congratulations to Class of 2022! Read more

To let students know more about sustainable living and increase awareness of natural environment, a wooden watch DIY workshop, co-organized with Y Park, was held on 11 November 2022. The workshop first began with an introduction of Y Park, then students tried to use upcycled wood collected from Y Park to make a wooden watch by themselves. Students could choose and watchstrap and different plant species (either cherry wood or Taiwan Acacia) as the bezel according to their preference. Students found the workshop impressive and educational. Read more

To help students explore the biodiversity, native wildlife conservation and organic farming in Hong Kong, a group of EHS students had a field trip to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) on 11 November 2022. KFBG spreads over 148 hectares of land on the northern slopes of Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong's highest mountain, near the town of Tai Po. It has a deep-set valley between two ridges, with a stream running steeply down through the forest. On the slopes there are forest, theme gardens, vegetable terraces, 8km of walking trails, 9km of roads, and conservation and educational facilities. Through a guided tour led by trained environmental interpreter, students visited several attractions in KFBG, such as Piers Jacobs Wildlife Sanctuary, Insect House, Amphibian and Reptile House, as well as Orchid Greenhouse. Students found the field trip interesting and educational, and they were able to raise awareness of ecological and sustainability issues, undertake species conservation and ecosystem restoration in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
