Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme 2023/24

MSc in Environmental Health and Safety program has been selected by UGC to award eligible students the fellowships in the 2023/24 academic year.


In recognition of HKUST’s efforts in contributing to the strategic development of Hong Kong, the University Grants Committee (UGC) has awarded HKUST some Fellowship places for the 2023/24 academic year. The scheme encourages students to pursue inter-disciplinary and in-depth postgraduate training in priority areas that are beneficial to society.
 

Eligibility
  1. Applications are open to local students admitted to the designated TPg programs in 2023/24;
  2. The award of the fellowships will be based on merits taking into account the students' academic achievements, professional qualifications, relevant working experience and achievements in other areas as well as the proposals submitted by the students; and
  3. To avoid double subsidy, applications from students who are receiving other forms of government scholarship (except student financial assistance) for pursuing the same program will not be considered.

 

Fellowship Amount

The fellowship students are required to pay a minimum tuition fee of HK$42,100, and the differences will be subsidised by the fellowships subject to a cap of HK$120,000, regardless of the actual study period of the TPg program.

For interested applicants, please submit the program application online before the application deadline, AND send an email to ocesmsc@ust.hk with your personal statement. Early application is highly encouraged as review of applications is on a rolling basis.

Continuing Education Fund (CEF)

MSc EHS Program has been included in the list of reimbursable courses for the Continuing Education Fund (CEF). After 1 April 2019, successful applicants who are HK citizens and are eligible for CEF may be reimbursed with a maximum sum of HK$20,000 upon successful completion of the entire program with an overall attendance rate over 70%. For details and updates of eligibility, application, and reimbursement procedures (in particular the reimbursement period from the date of application), please check the CEF Office or 3142-2277 (24-hour enquiry hotline).  


Attention: Effective from 1 April 2019, there will be a series of enhancement measures related to CEF applied to all new, currently valid and closed accounts.

MSc in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Academic Excellence Scholarship

To encourage, recognize and reward students with outstanding academic performance, Academic Excellence Scholarship to the top-performing students of the MSc Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program is set up. Up to 2 students will be selected for the award by the end of each academic year.
 

Award

Each awardee will receive HK$10,000 and an award certificate.
 

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
  1. Students will be eligible to compete for the Scholarship only when they have successfully completed all graduation requirements within the normative study period of one academic year for the full-time mode and two academic years for the part-time mode.
  2. Students who have successfully completed all graduation requirements within the same academic year will be evaluated altogether for the Scholarship by the end of the academic year.
  3. Students eligible to compete for the Scholarship of an academic year will be ranked by their GGA. Only those who are able to meet the following two conditions will be given the Scholarship:
    (i) being ranked as one of the top two students, and
    (ii) having a GGA of no less than 4.0.

 

Procedure

No application is needed. The MSc EHS committee will rank the students and select the awardees at the end of Spring semester. The list of awardees will be approved by MSc EHS Program Director and the Head of Department. Once approved, the awardees will be notified. We encourage the awardees to provide a brief statement of their learning experiences and the statement may be posted on the webpage or other promotional materials of the MSc EHS program.
 


Entrance Scholarship

To recognize top candidates with outstanding academic achievement, newly admitted full-time or part-time students which have outstanding academic background and merit by meeting the specific conditions will have a chance to be awarded. The number of awardees varies each year and depends on the management committee's review and decision. Each awardee will receive HK$20,000.

 


Elite Scholarship

​​To encourage candidates who are working in the environmental health and safety industry to upgrade their skills and knowledge by enrolling in our program, newly admitted part-time students who have work experience in the industry related to environmental health & safety and able to demonstrate their work duties are relevant to the program at the time of application, and can meet the scholarship's specific conditions will have a chance to be awarded. Up to 3 students will be selected for the award for each academic year. Each awardee will receive HK$10,000.
