On 14th March 2024, a group of MSc EHS students had the opportunity to visit the Tung Lung Chau mariculture demonstration farm. This state-of-the-art demonstration farm, located in the Tung Lung Chau Fish Culture Zone, has been established by the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD). Its primary objective is to guide the local mariculture industry towards modern and sustainable practices, thereby enhancing its overall competitiveness.
During the visit, students had the chance to walk on the fish raft and explore the farm's advanced technology and management systems. These included a real-time surveillance system, a real-time water quality monitoring system, an automated feeding system, and a solar and wind power generation system. Through engaging with representatives from the AFCD, students gained a deeper understanding of sustainable and high-value-added fishing operations. They also learned about the materials used in constructing the mariculture demonstration farm and gained insights into its overall structure.
