On October 2nd and 9th, our ENVS5112 class embarked on a field trip to WEEE Park in Tuen Mun, an engaging part of our course activities focused on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) disposal and environmental sustainability.
WEEE Park features five distinct zones: the Exhibition Corridor, Unloading Bay, Buffer Storage, Processing Hall, and Dashboard Area. Each zone is designed with captivating visuals, interactive games, and animations that highlight the critical issues surrounding WEEE disposal and its effects on both the environment and human health.
One of the most insightful aspects of our visit was the designated viewing gallery, which allowed us to observe the facility's operations firsthand. On the bright morning of August 28, 2024, the MSc EHS program organized an orientation cultural tour to welcome the new cohort. Our first stop was the Hong Kong Palace Museum in West Kowloon.
The museum is a treasure trove, showcasing over 900 priceless artifacts from the Palace Museum, many of which were displayed in Hong Kong for the very first time. It was fascinating to see items that had never been shown to the public before. The blend of Chinese art and culture with international treasures made for a captivating experience. We were all in awe as we explored the exhibits, deepening our appreciation for the rich history and artistry on display.
After an enriching morning, we headed to Lei Yue Mun for a seafood lunch. Known for its bustling seafood market and charming restaurants, this former fishing village has transformed into a popular tourist destination. The seafood was fresh and delicious, offering us a taste of the local flavors.
After lunch, we took a leisurely walk to the Lei Yue Mun Quarry & Lighthouse. The area is steeped in history, reflecting the charm of old fishing villages. As we strolled along the paths, we could feel the echoes of the past, imagining the lives of fishermen who once inhabited this vibrant spot. The scenic views of the harbor were breathtaking, providing perfect photo opportunities and a chance to bond with new friends.
To conclude our day, we participated in a milk tea making workshop. This delightful session allowed us to learn about the art of making classic Hong Kong-style milk tea.
